Position Description The incumbent is expected to work
independently with general guidance from Product Manufacturing engineers. Provide laboratory support in sheet Joining
and Welding technologies. This include
running a robotic RSW (Resistance Spot Welding) cell, programming RSW
(Resistance Spot Welding) equipment, preparing test samples, performing tests
on said sample, collecting and analyzing data, and documenting and preparing
electronic test reports. Major activities
include:
• Coordinate work
through the robotic RSW (Resistance Spot Welding) cell and interfacing with PMD
(Product Manufacturing Division) engineers and Alloy Development personnel
regarding timing and delivery of test results
• Conduct weld testing
and prototyping using the computer controlled robotic RSW (Resistance Spot
Welding)equipment
• Support the use of
the robotic RSW (Resistance Spot Welding) equipment with sample preparation,
lubricant and adhesive application to specimens, destructive weld evaluation,
and routine RSW (Resistance Spot Welding) maintenance activities
In addition, the incumbent should have the following knowledge, skills
and education:
• Fundamental
operating knowledge of welding and joining technologies as applied to
automotive gage sheet products
• Basic understanding
of requirements for robotic RSW (Resistance SpotWelding) and application of the
equipment setup and procedures to meet required performance standards
• Willingness and
ability to operate basic machine tools and forming equipment
• Possess mechanical
skills to assist in fabrication of prototype assemblies
• Ability to collect,
collate and format data for analysis and presentation (Excel/PowerPoint)
• Effectively works
and communicates with others through collaboration on assigned projects
• Demonstrated ability
to identify and solve problems or advise others within the company and customer
operations on equipment and processes
• Organizes work to
use time effectively. Plans and schedules assignments according to priorities.
Basic Qualifications
• Associates Degree in
Welding
• 1+ years industrial
experience as a technician supporting fabrication and advanced manufacturing
processes
• Experience with
testing and evaluation of welding and joining is required
Preferred Qualifications Experience
with aluminum welding and RSW (Resistance Spot Welding) technologies is
preferred.
