Marketing and Communications Intern


The Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh has opened a position for a summer intern in our Marketing and Communications department. This position is ideal for a creative, organized individual who is interested in the nonprofit sector.

Job Responsibilities: The Marketing and Communications Intern plays a large role in supporting the Marketing and Communications Director and the Marketing and Communications Coordinator by assisting in the execution of marketing and communications projects.  Excellent writing and editing skills are needed for the production of internal publications and web content redevelopment.  Additional support may include social networking, maintenance of marketing archive systems and databases as well as event coordination. The marketing intern will also assist the development department when necessary.  We are looking for a highly-motivated, self-starter that can work as directed on their everyday tasks but also come up with some fresh ideas and make them happen!

Responsible To: Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Education: Currently working toward Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or related field.

Training and Experience: Prior internship experience preferred. Candidate must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university and have completed sophomore year.

Abilities Needed: Ability to work with a team and independently in a fast-paced environment.  Ability to multi-task: must be extremely organized and able to maintain accountability. Effective communication and time management skills required. Must exhibit professional demeanor and positive outlook. Strong computer skills including Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Knowledge of Flickr preferred.

The internship is projected to begin on May 20, 2013 and last for 10 – 12 weeks. Schedule may vary, however, 24+ hours per week availability is required. This internship is work-study eligible or can be taken for credit.

Software Engineer I Intern

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

As the Software Engineer I Intern, you will be responsible for working closely with the Application Development Team and Project Managers to deliver leading edge solutions to our customers. You will be designing and developing enterprise mobility solutions using state-of-the-art technologies that operate on mobile devices and platforms like Motorola, Honeywell and Apple.

In this role you will be responsible for: 
  • Participate in functional and technical design for the customer solutions
  • Develop major software components for the customer solutions
  • Adhere to Lucas’s software development practices from developing specification, perform code review and technical documentation
  • Assist in solution installation and customer training, as required
  • Support Lucas’s customer support team in troubleshooting and developing resolutions for existing client deployments.
Qualifications:
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering (significant and relevant work experience coupled with a differing degree will be considered)
  • Working knowledge of .NET 2.0/3.5/4.0, C# and SQL (including Stored Procedure) is a must
  • Exposure to Silverlight
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective organizational skills and ability to be attentive to details
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

Lucas Systems, Inc. is currently looking for a Software Support Intern, a key part of the Service and Support team.  The Software Support Intern will be exposed to a number of business units, including Project Management, Design, Development, and Installation. Exposure to a variety of product offerings will allow the Support Analyst to fill organizational needs while enriching experience and skill levels.

Position Description
  • Provide high quality technical support for our voice-directed software product to our existing and rapidly growing customer base; escalating and redirecting inquiries as necessary including interaction with our application development team to effectively resolve technical issues
  • Work with customers to specify, quote, and design customer product enhancements
  • Develop and implement customer product enhancements
  • Trace and debug code as necessary for problem resolution
  • Provide database maintenance for customer sites
  • Design and build enhancements to current solutions to improve customer experiences
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Classwork or practical experience writing SQL (preferably using MS SQL Server)
  • General understanding of SQL Server 2005/2008 maintenance and basic administration
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to relate to both high-level IT personnel and end users
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in writing and debugging stored procedures
  • Working knowledge of or debugging experience in C#.NET
  • Understanding of Microsoft IIS and FTP
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Team Foundation Server
