Application Developer I

DEPARTMENT:  Information Services
REPORTS TO:      Application Development Manager

SUMMARY
This individual will be responsible developing, modifying, and implementation of new and existing application initiatives, and will be expected to code, test, debug and troubleshoot.  Also, participates in the design architecture review of development projects.  Scope of problems is moderate.  Reviews identifiable factors in the analysis of situations, data, and deliverables.  Works off of designs and requirements provided by senior members of the development team, and business analysts.  Uses defined procedures and practices in judgment in determining appropriate action.  Normally receives no instruction on routine work, general instructions on new assignments. 

FUNDAMENTAL DUTIES
•             Supports existing applications.
•             Creates reports and writes queries.
•             Participates in development of new applications and systems.
•             Develops new applications and system enhancements. 
•             Maintains existing applications by troubleshooting bugs, implementing fixes, developing enhancements; providing technical support through direct end-user interaction. 
•             Documents existing and new systems.
•             Source code control, release control, release coordination, and adherence to standards for multiple applications & systems.
•             Assists with the deployment of new applications and systems, review implementations. Perform unit, system and integration testing. 
•             Collaborates with peers to provide proactive solutions.
•             Adheres to department procedures and policies, including coding standards, change control and testing processes.
•             Communicates effectively between teams, individuals within the Information Services department and individuals in other departments.
•             Other compatible duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
•             Knowledge or experience developing client/server, web and/or n-tier applications using MS SQL platform or other relational database management systems.
•             Ability to analyze, define, research, resolve, and communicate problems and problem resolution.
•             Ability to handle multiple tasks, and to prioritize tasks, in a fast-paced environment.
•             Ability to work well with other application development team members.
•             Attention to detail and ability to focus on task-at-hand.
•             Ability to interact and communicate with both technical and non-technical users.  
•             Familiarity with SQL,C#, ASP.NET, VB.NET, the .NET Framework required VBScript, JavaScript, and/or VB preferred.
•             Familiarity with Visual Studio 2008/2010 and/or Team Foundation Services 2008/2010 preferred.
•             Understanding of Crystal Reports or comparable reporting tools preferred.
•             Experience with Agile Development Methodologies, WEB Services, and Service Level Architectures (SOA) preferred.
•             Familiarity with WCF and WPF preferred.   
•             Understanding of order entry, production scheduling, and financial systems preferred

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•             4-year degree in information systems, computer science or related field. 
•             Entry-level experience in application development or programming.
•             Experience with Object Oriented principles and programming preferred.
•             Experience with Agile Development Methodologies, WEB Services, and Service Level Architectures (SOA) a plus.
