Beaver County Planning Commission Beaver County Intern

Under immediate supervision of the Assistant Director of Planning, the intern will support the functions of the BCPC staff while gaining knowledge of basic planning functions. The intern must be enrolled full-time at an accredited university or college pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in urban planning, geography, economic development, political science, or a related field.

The intern will: 
  • Learn to read and interpret ordinances and regulations as they pertain to land use. 
  • Learn the Beaver County Planning Commission Subdivision and Land Development review process, and gain familiarity with site, topographic, landscape, and architectural plans. 
  • Prepare agendas and reports for boards meetings; provide required information for specific meetings; assist in the preparation and review of meeting minutes. 
  • Research information and assist staff with public inquiries pertaining to planning. 
  • Research, collect, compile, record and summarize technical data. 
  • Assist staff with the geographic information system (GIS) by performing research, data entry, and preparing maps and graphs for various projects.

Desired Qualifications: 
  • Knowledge of basic principles and concepts of urban planning 
  • Can communicate effectively, both orally and in writing 
  • Basic report writing, research methods and data compilation skills 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010, Windows 7, and ArcGIS 10.2.2 software 
  • Ability to produce/reproduce maps, graphics, reports, and other documents 
  • Ability to read and interpret mapping and survey data, site plans, zoning maps, etc. 
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, outside agencies, and the general public 
  • Ability to interpret local regulations, zoning and subdivision ordinances, environmental regulations, and Beaver County policies and procedures as they relate to the processing of proposed plans

Pay Rate will be $12.00 per hour working 35 hours per week for 10 weeks. Internship period runs from June 8, 2015 through August 14, 2015. Letters of interest and resumes should be sent to the attention of Frank Mancini at fmancini@beavercountypa.gov

Under immediate supervision of the Chief of Staff, the intern will support the functions of the Commissioners Office staff and Chief of Staff while gaining knowledge of basic government functions. The intern must be enrolled full-time at an accredited university or college pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in business administration and/or accounting.


The intern will: 
  • Learn purchasing procedures for a government entity. 
  • Learn budget procedures in a government environment. 
  • Prepare agendas and reports for the Board of Commissioners meetings or those of the Chief of Staff and will be responsible for providing required information for those meetings as needed. 
  • Research information and assist staff with public inquiries pertaining to county government. 
  • Assist the Chief of Staff with report preparation and departmental issues for IT, Micrographics, Purchasing and Payroll. 


Desired Qualifications: 
  • Knowledge of basic business processes, preferably within a government environment. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Detail oriented. 
  • Excellent computer skills. 
  • Knowledge in Excel and Crystal reporting. 
  • Ability to work well within a professional environment.

The Supply Chain intern will work alongside experienced Supply Chain professionals and gain cross-functional experience by executing day-to-day responsibilities and supporting MSA's broader strategic initiatives.  The intern will gain comprehensive knowledge of world class systems and learn about MSA's Operating System, our continuous improvement process.  Duties and responsibilities may include:
·         Support of the Finished Goods Materials Management and Transportation teams through master file maintenance, basic planning, forecasting and replenishment assignments, as well as analytical and project support.
·         Documentation of standard operating procedures and shipping instructions
·         Preparation of Materials Management and Transportation metrics

Special knowledge, skills and abilities required:
·         A fundamental understanding of supply chain concepts
·         Excellent problem solving skills
·         Strong organizational and time management skills
·         Ability to work within a team environment
