460- acres of ridges, valleys,
ponds, streams and trails cover the property of YMCA Camp Mason. We are located in northwestern New Jersey just
outside the 70,000-acre Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, one of the
last true wilderness areas in the northeastern United States. This setting affords us almost limitless
opportunities to engage in outdoor adventure and promote the values of environmental
awareness.
Camp Mason is seeking a
passionate, enthusiastic and motivated environmental educator to act Nature
Director at our traditional YMCA summer camp.
The Nature Director is a senior staff member whose primary role is leading
staff in the delivery of an effective and engaging nature program.
Qualifications:
Required:
Must
be comfortable outdoors and familiar with outdoor living and natural sciences
Must demonstrate a strong passion
for the outdoors, sustainability, environmental awareness and simple living
Strong
leadership skills and respectable character
Experience working
at a camp or residential education center
First
aid and CPR, or willingness to get certified before camp starts
Wilderness
First Aid, or willingness to get certified before camp starts
The
ability to complete the full term of the position
Preferred:
Lifeguard
certification a plus
Belay
experience or interest in learning a plus
Valid
driver’s license and clean record a plus
Responsibilities:
Train a group of counselors to
become effective natural educators
Provide leadership to staff as
necessary (includes instruction, evaluation and feedback of activities)
Be a role model to campers and
staff in both behavior and attitude
Develop hands-on activities and engaging
destination walks related to the natural environment and outdoor living (fire
building, survival, outdoor cooking, etc.)
Plan and teach classes to groups of
children between 7 and 16 years of age
Ensure that all campers experience
progression and recognition in all nature programs
Be directly responsible for the
maintenance and presentation of the Nature Center
Provide, acquire and care for
animals and specimens
Ensure all equipment and systems
are working/inventoried and consistently carried out
Be able to make valuable
contributions to the planning and execution of evening, weekend and theme
activities
Anything else that need to be done
to keep Camp Mason safe, fun, and on the leading edge of the camping industry.
Compensation, Benefits & Housing: Shared housing and cafeteria style meals are
provided. Salary is commensurate with
experience, starting at $2,000.
Workman’s Compensation Insurance provided to all staff.

Dates of Employment: June 9, 2013- August 18, 2013 Must be able to commit to entire season.
