cover the property of YMCA Camp Mason.
We are located in northwestern New Jersey just outside the 70,000-acre
Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, one of the last true wilderness
areas in the northeastern United States.
This setting affords us almost limitless opportunities to engage in
outdoor adventure and promote the idea of living well together. Camp Mason has been building character since
1900 with a unique blend of adventure and tradition emphasizing the values of
caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Camp Mason is seeking a passionate, enthusiastic and
motivated individual to act as Ropes Director at our traditional YMCA summer
camp. The Ropes Director is a senior
staff member whose primary role is leading staff in the delivery of safe, exciting
and engaging teambuilding and ropes programs.
In addition to a climbing wall, Camp Mason has extensive high ropes and
low ropes courses.
Qualifications:Required:
Significant
training and experience with adventure/ropes course programs (must be
documented)
Apparent leadership skills and a
professional character that is consistent, capable, self-directed, well
organized, flexible, personable, and is able to maintain composure in a
changing environment
Strong organizational skills
Ability
to train and supervise program assistants
Understanding of
group dynamics
An
awareness of how psychology and motivation can affect actions
Ability to work under pressure and
maintain composure in a changing environment
First
aid and CPR, or willingness to get certified before camp starts
The
ability to complete the full term of the position
Preferred:
Lifeguard
certification a plus
Valid
driver’s license and clean record a plus
Responsibilities:
Train a group of counselors to
become effective instructors for high ropes, low ropes, and climbing wall.
Provide leadership to staff as
necessary (includes instruction, evaluation and feedback of activities)
Setup and breakdown necessary ropes
elements daily
Be a role model to campers and
staff in both behavior and attitude, reflecting the culture and mission of Camp
Mason throughout the remainder of camp’s activities
Plan and teach classes to groups of
children between 7 and 16 years of age
Ensure that all campers experience
progression and recognition in all ropes programs
Ensure all equipment and systems
are working/inventoried and consistently carried out
Conduct
initial and end of season inventory, and store equipment for maintenance and
safety
Be able to make valuable
contributions to the planning and execution of evening, weekend and theme
activities
Anything else that needs to be done
to keep Camp Mason safe, fun, and on the leading edge of the camping industry.
Compensation, Benefits & Housing: Shared housing and cafeteria style meals are
provided. Salary is commensurate with
experience, starting at $2,250.
Workman’s Compensation Insurance provided to all staff.
