The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Labor & Industry is soliciting applications for LEGAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTS. Note that a bachelor’s degree will qualify a candidate for the title of Administrative Assistant 1. Senior students who wish to apply for the Administrative Assistant 1 title may take the test if they have completed 90 or more credit hours AND expect to receive a bachelor’s degree within the next 7 months. The Legal Assistant 1 title allows for an equivalent combination of experience and training. Senior students may utilize their college degree to qualify for the Legal Assistant 1 title.

NATURE OF WORK
As a Legal Assistant, you will review and analyze reports, applications, recommendations, rulings, and decisions for inconsistencies with laws or regulations governing agency programs. You will also prepare summaries of routine cases; review files to list violations; advise interested parties on general policies and practices; review and compile files of pertinent documents for use at board hearings; and perform a variety of legal secretarial and staff support work.
As an Administrative Assistant, you will perform various staff assignments, including analyzing operations and procedures, developing and recommending work standards and procedures, conducting research and studies, preparing reports of findings and recommendations, and performing public relations and liaison duties.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Minimum Requirements
Legal Assistant 1 (State Government) - Three years of responsible clerical, enforcement or investigative work; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Legal Assistant 1 (Local Government) - Three years of progressively responsible clerical, auditing, enforcement, or investigative experience; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Legal Assistant 2 (State Government) - One year as a Legal Assistant 1; OR 4 years of responsible clerical, investigative or enforcement work including 1 year of legal clerical support experience; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Legal Assistant 2 (Local Government) - One year as a Legal Assistant 1; OR 4 years of progressively responsible clerical, auditing, enforcement, or investigative experience, including 1 year of legal clerical experience, and graduation from high school; OR an equivalent experience and training.
Administrative Assistant 1 (State and Local Government) – A bachelor’s degree; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Administrative Assistant 2 (State and Local Government) – One year of experience as a staff assistant to an administrative officer or as a technician in a staff service of a large organization and a bachelor’s degree; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
