We are located in northwestern New Jersey just outside the 70,000-acre
Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, one of the last true wilderness
areas in the northeastern United States.
This setting affords us almost limitless opportunities to engage in
outdoor adventure and promote the values of environmental awareness.
Camp Mason is seeking a passionate, enthusiastic and
motivated environmental educator to act as a Trips Leader at our traditional
YMCA summer camp. Trips leaders are
program staff members whose primary role is leading delivering a safe, sustainable,
and engaging trips program.
Skills:Hard Skills:
Safety and first-aid skills:
· Injury prevention and management
· Rescue
· Navigation
· Weather reading
· Water safety
Site appropriate skills:
· Hiking
· Overnight camping
· Rock climbing/ belaying
· Canoeing, kayaking, and rafting
Strong organizational skills
Ability to adequately plan and prepare for trips
Environmental skills- especially knowledge of and commitment to Leave No Trace practices
Soft Skills:
Strong leadership skills with the ability to be flexible
Effective communication skills
A commitment to ethical behavior
Understanding of group dynamics
An awareness of how psychology and motivation can affect actions
Ability to work under pressure and maintain composure in a changing environment
Certifications:
First Aid certification, required
CRP certification, required
Lifeguard certification, required
Wilderness First Aid, required
Wilderness First Responder, preferred
Top Rope Site Manager (American Mountain Guide Association), preferred
Valid driver’s license and clean record, preferred
Responsibilities:
Plan and execute adventure trips for campers between 7 and 16
years of age
Be a role model to campers and fellow staff in both behavior
and attitude
Participate in the maintenance and presentation of the Trips
Center, ensuring all equipment and systems are working/inventoried and
consistently carried out
Be able to make valuable contributions to the planning and
execution of evening, weekend and theme activitiesAnything else that needs to be done to keep Camp Mason safe, fun, and on the leading edge of the camping industry.
Compensation, Benefits & Housing: Shared housing and cafeteria style meals are provided. Salary is commensurate with experience, starting at $2,000. Workman’s Compensation Insurance provided to all staff.
