Plant Engineer

MLP Steel is looking to hire a Plant Engineer to plan, coordinate and direct the estimating function within one of the market’s premier manufacturers of heavy-duty steel bar grating.  This is an immediate need for a motivated team player with a history of good attendance.

Applicants must have a strong desire to learn and accept additional responsibilities that may be offered.  Ideal candidates will also be open to learn new technologies to keep MLP Steel abreast of the changing marketplace and productivity advances.  Successful candidates will have a thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices and methods.  Candidates must be able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with employees, consultants, other governmental agency representatives, city officials and the general public.  Candidates must be literate in CAD and Microsoft Office.  Working knowledge of ERP systems is desired.  Bachelors Degree in Engineering and 5 years of field experience, or equivalent, are required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

*        Review product designs for compliance with engineering principles, MLP standards and Customer contract requirements, and related specifications;

*        Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness;

*        Develop and implement department standards and procedures;

*        Develop and maintain cost data, including labor and equipment rates, installation methods and production rates;

*        Determines work procedures and expedites workflow;

*        Directly supervise employees  and carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with MLP Steel’s policies and applicable laws;

*        Assist in the sales effort by evaluating product marketability in terms of Customers’ technical and manufacturing needs as well as maintaining an up-to-date understanding of industry trends and technical developments that effect target markets.
