Penn State Fayette Campus Recruiting Event

About The Winery:
Christian W. Klay Winery is a 215 acre farm with 14 acres of vines selected for cold hardiness located in the beautiful Laurel Highlands in southwestern PA. The area is popular tourist destination for many who enjoy visiting the Frank Lloyd Wright homes, hiking, biking, caving, white water rafting, resort facilities and fine dining.


Event Coordinator
Internship
Internship Description:

We are seeking a customer service focused individual that is friendly, positive, and reliable to join our event team. Strong attention to detail a must. This is a summer internship at 20-30 hours per week. Pay rate starts at $8.00/hour.

Duties include but are not limited to:
§  Includes participation in on and off property events.
§  Assist with event planning logistics to include diagrams, vendor coordination and appointment confirmation/scheduling.
§  Assist and participate in marketing of events, programs and festivals.
§  Conduct property tours, wine tasting and sales.
§  Assist in the development of proposal/contract coordination.
§  Assist with invoicing and phone coverage.
§  Attend, monitor and evaluate events and make recommendations to improve quality of events.
§  Developing a solid knowledge of local state alcohol laws and regulations relative to promotional activity.
§  Participate in training and professional development activities as needed.

Qualifications:
§  Current Business, Marketing, or Communications student interested in the field of hospitality management and event planning.
§  Previous customer service experience preferred (in the wine industry a PLUS!)
§  Knowledge and experience in various aspects of social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
§  High level of proficiency with MS Office
Superior communication and phone skills

Winery Apprenticeship
Apprenticeship Description:
The Winery Apprenticeship is a great opportunity to learn the vineyard/winery business from the ground up. The Winery Apprentice is responsible to support all of vineyard care and wine production. Flexibility is a must in order to accommodate the varying demands of the vineyard, winery and general operations.  
The vineyard planting was established between 1990-1994. The area includes three small plantings of apples, raised beds with edible flowers and lavender planting. The apprentice will have the opportunity to work with the Vineyard Manager and Owner/Winemaker who both encompass 20 years of experience. Hours vary between 30 to 40 hours per week. One bedroom home may be available with a minimum 1 year commitment to the Apprenticeship. Excellent potential for growth.
Duties include but are not limited to:
§  Assist with general seasonal farm maintenance.
§  Assist with all vineyard duties that include pruning, tying up, planting, weed control, canopy management and harvest.
§  Participate in wine making activities
§  Participate in festivals and events.
§  Assist with equipment maintenance.
§  Developing a solid knowledge of local state alcohol laws, safety rules and regulations.
§  Participate in training and professional development activities as needed.
Qualifications:
§  Some agriculture, horticulture or viticultural knowledge and/or experience are desirable.
§  The ability to multi-task and be flexible.
§  The desire and willingness to learn new skills.
§  The ability to follow directions and work well with other employees.
§  Requires own transportation and clean driving record with no history of DUI’s.
§  Criminal background check required.
§  Must be 18 years of age or older.
