POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Communications Coordinator
(Full-time, non-exempt)
Just Harvest, an anti-hunger/anti-poverty advocacy organization in Pittsburgh, seeks a skilled and committed professional to coordinate and implement our communications and media activities to build awareness and visibility for our mission and programs.
Essential Functions
  • Demonstrate and reflect the mission and values of Just Harvest.
  • Communicate the Just Harvest message to all media outlets.
  • Broaden public understanding of Just Harvest’s anti-hunger and anti-poverty mission through community education programs, media outreach, and publications.
  • Create and disseminate organizational communications such as press announcements, brochures, flyers, and advertisements.
  • Create opportunities for expanded public awareness of Just Harvest and its mission.
  • Coordinate Just Harvest’s overall communications strategy.
  • Assume responsibility for all Just Harvest communications activities including Just Harvest News, Welfare Agitator,website, and development of outreach and educational materials.
    • Publish Just Harvest News quarterly.
    • Maintain and update website regularly.
    • Publish or edit other publications or communications.
    • Advertise Just Harvest events.
    • Manage Just Harvest social media communications
    • Assist with:
      • Planning and implementing Just Harvest events.
      • Organization’s fund development activities
      • Provide media and communications training to Board, Executive Director, and staff.
      • Participate in Just Harvest staff meetings.
      • Complete other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required for the Position
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Strong computer literacy with experience working with MS Office and Desktop publishing.
  • Background with web design or web maintenance.
  • Ability to:
    • Maintain confidentiality.
    • Work as part of a team.
    • Provide effective communications with limited resources.
    • Communicate effectively with diverse audiences and across diverse media.
    • Multi-task
Working Conditions
  • Flexible work schedule including occasional evening or weekend work.
  • Small office setting with limited resources.
  • Occasional work outdoors.
  • Job at times is
    • Fast-paced with deadlines to meet.
    • Sedentary requiring 20 pounds or less of exerted force.
    • Frequent computer usage that requires repetitive motions.
    • Travel expected to local, regional, and state meetings.
    • Lifting up to 20 pounds.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Prior experience in the non-profit sector and with media, communications, or marketing strongly preferred.
  • Experience with development of Op-Eds, news advisories, news releases, and letters to the editor.
  • Minimum of one year advocacy issue-focused work.
Compensation:
$13.50 per hour plus health insurance, and sick, vacation, and personal days.
