SALARY:
HOURLY - $14.9348
MONTHLY - $2,588.69
ANNUAL - $31,064.28
Public Health Nutritionist I’s are eligible for promotion to Public Health Nutritionist II with a salary increase after one (1) year of service and a satisfactory performance evaluation.

MIMIMUM REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor's Degree from a college or university (accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) in Public Health Nutrition, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, or Nutritional Science, including coursework in basic nutrition, diet therapy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry and biochemistry.
It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass background checks as required for the position.

NATURE OF WORK

This is beginning level professional work in the field of public health nutrition. Employees in this class provide a variety of beginning level community nutrition education services to health, social and welfare agencies, schools, institutions and WIC Program participants. Employees receive training designed to develop skills, knowledge and abilities needed to promote and conduct community nutrition programs. Employees coordinate the duties and activities of paraprofessional and clerical staff in their assigned program offices. Work is performed in accordance with established regulations, policies and procedures under the direct supervision of a Public Health Nutrition Supervisor or Administrator.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of nutrition and dietetics, both normal and therapeutic.
Knowledge of methods utilized to assess nutritional problems of individuals, families and groups.
Knowledge of health care ethics and confidentiality of information.
Knowledge of current developments in the field of public health nutrition.
Knowledge of the principles and practices related to providing nutrition information to institutions and group care facilities.
Ability to perform hemoglobin testing and lead screenings as requested or required.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Ability to service as a coordinator of a staff of paraprofessional and clerical staff in assigned office.
Ability to implement public health nutrition policies and procedures with staff and program participants.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with professional and lay groups in implementing nutrition education programs.
Ability to respond to emergencies.
