Engineering Positions at AASHTO

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO- www.transportation.org)  is currently hiring two positions, a NTPEP Implementation Specialist, and a NTPEP Technology Specialist, positions located in Washington, DC.

NTPEP Implementation Specialist
The NTPEP Implementation Specialist supports AASHTO’s National Transportation Product Evaluation Program (NTPEP).  Under the direction of the NTPEP Program Manager, the Implementation Specialist is responsible for the implementation of new products, monitoring the sustainability of current NTPEP technical committees, and other NTPEP technical committees.  Additionally, the Implementation Specialist provides support for AASHTO’s Subcommittee on Materials (SOM). 
Tasks include the following:
·         Solicit and organize feedback from state DOTs regarding the addition of new products and audits to the NTPEP scope
·         Guide new technical committees from inception through product realization
·         Collaborate with state and industry members on the creation of work plans and other supporting documents for new technical committees
·         Monitor sustainability of current NTPEP technical committees, assisting with revitalization efforts or sunsetting, as needed

NTPEP Technology Specialist
The NTPEP Technology Specialist supports AASHTO’s National Transportation Product Evaluation Program (NTPEP).  Under the direction of the NTPEP Program Manager, the Technology Specialist is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of its website database (DataMine) along with being a NTPEP Liaison for technical committees.  Additionally, the Technology Specialist may provide AASHTO support for the Subcommittee on Materials (SOM). 
Tasks would include the following:
·         Coordinate the implementation of the newest version of DataMine by tracking deadlines, updating documents, and providing technical assistance
·         Facilitate DataMine conference calls and webinars with state users, industry members, NTPEP staff, and consultants
·         Educate users on features of DataMine along with troubleshoot any issues
·         Provide guidance to newly developed technical committees on the development of their module in DataMine
·         Become an expert in DataMine and be able to provide suggestions for improvements and new features

Both the NTPEP Implementation Specialist and NTPEP Technology Specialist position are responsible for duties associated with being a NTPEP Liaison, which include:
·         Become familiar with assigned technical committees’ work plans, testing protocols, and structure
·         Communicate with manufacturers interested in participating in NTPEP along with reviewing and accepting applications in DataMine
·         Track product progress through DataMine from application to data release
·         Gather feedback from manufacturers, test facilities, and states and facilitate any necessary responses
·         Assist committees in making changes to work plans, DataMine, and testing protocols 
·         Facilitate quarterly conference calls and assist with agenda creation and document distribution
·         Attend the annual NTPEP meeting and provide support for associated technical committees

The incumbents may be expected to assist with the Subcommittee on Materials as AASHTO support.  Tasks would include the following:
·         Provide AASHTO support to tech sections and assist with mid-year webinars
·         May attend the annual SOM meeting and provide support for associated tech sections (NTPEP Implementation Specialist only)
·         Help facilitate feedback and suggestions for improvements to applicable standards and specifications

These positions require:
·         Strong written, speaking, and presentation skills
·         Self-starter with good time management skills
·         Ability to manage several different projects and prioritize tasks
·         Intermediate to Strong computer competence particularly in Microsoft Office, webinar software, and an aptitude for learning new applications
·         Ability to travel to meetings and other events and remain professional in different environments
·         Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written, and to work cooperatively with contractors, staff, and task force members. 

The successful candidates should have 2-3 years of experience in a technical or engineering-related field. A four-year engineering degree or a degree in a related technical or scientific discipline is also desired.
