Former Navy Admiral and Congressman Joe Sestak
Internship Opportunities
Former Navy Admiral and Congressman Joe Sestak is accepting applicants for internship positions on
his U.S. Senate Campaign. Interns are accepted on a rolling basis and are expected to commit a
minimum of 20 hours per week; full time preferred.
We encourage applicants who are highly motivated and interested in government and public service to
apply. An internship provides an opportunity to learn more about political campaigns, the federal
government, and the legislative process. Interns will gain the knowledge, skills, and tools that will assist
an intern in all future professional endeavors.
Qualifications
Interns must be able to work independently as well as respond to direction. Most importantly, interns
must finish assigned work quickly, thoroughly, and accurately. Interns with diverse majors are
welcomed and desired to apply, from engineering and political science to mathematics to
communications. No prior political experience is required. Other qualifications include commitment to
the goals of the campaign, good analytical and qualitative skills, excellent written and oral
communication skills, the ability to converse comfortably on the phone, and strong attention to detail.
Experience with grassroots organizing and campaigns is a plus, but, again, is not required. Good time
management and organizational skills are required.
Responsibilities
Interns will work closely with staff on a variety of tasks. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited
to: voter contact, conducting research, attending community events with the outreach staff, drafting
memos and response letters and assisting the staff on special projects.
Data management: Learn the latest of various advanced database and data management software.
Interns will be tasked with maintaining systems related to donor, supporter, and communications
management.
Policy research: Develop a broad research plan on a topic, then, utilizing resources such as non-partisan
policy institutes and academic journals, examine, analyze and identify salient facts.
Additional Fellowship Program
Additionally, the campaign is also offering a fellowship program for applicants who are looking to take
their involvement with the campaign to the next level. Fellows will be required to have a greater time
commitment than interns. They will not only learn the basics of campaign field and data work, but will
also gain in-depth knowledge of grassroots organizing and targeting and modeling techniques so that
they are ready to work on, and eventually manage, campaigns of their own in the future.
Intern and fellowship programs are designed to be an enriching educational experience, where
participants will engage in daily field activities, learn from and have access to seasoned campaign staff,
and work with state of the art data and voter targeting software.
