Production Intern - ROOT SPORTS (Pittsburgh)
The DIRECTV intern program has been established to act as a recruiting tool for future hiring needs and to enhance the diversity of our employee population. Our intern applicant criterion for the program requires that each intern must be:
*Currently enrolled as a student at an accredited college or university
*At an undergraduate standing or in a Master's degree program (others on a case by case basis)
*Student with a grade point average of 3.0 out of 4.0 or better (note exceptions below)
*Enrolled in a major or a field of study which relates to the internship opportunity or our industry
ROOT SPORTS interns directly contribute to our productions, both shows and games, on a daily basis. They watch and log games from here in Pittsburgh and around the country. They edit highlights, packages, and assorted stories for our air. They also learn how to operate our studio equipment including newsroom software, teleprompters and remote cameras. The position is a part time job working 16 hours a week and pays $10 per hour. The position is for 12 months and starts 3/1/15. We prefer Senior or Post Graduate candidates (others considered on a case by case basis).
Our interns do NOT regularly have the opportunity to attend sporting events. That's why we are only looking for interns with an interest in production.
Skills: Candidates should have experience in sports video editing, specifically using Final Cut Pro. They also MUST have a working knowledge of sports, specifically of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Penguins. Interest in (and knowledge of) high school football would also be a plus.
You will:
A. Contribute to our on-air product on a daily basis.
B. Gain valuable experience in the sports television field by being part of our team.
C. Learn the necessary technical skills to gain entry-level employment (either with us or another television outlet).
D. Our interns are supervised on a daily basis and all are given distinct direction as per their role in our organization. Interns here are considered important parts of our team, not just job shadows.
