Camp WISP Direct Care Worker SUBSTITUTES for the Watson Institute

Job Title: Camp WISP Direct Care Worker SUBSTITUTES
Responsible for direct supervision and implementation of camp treatment plan goals for 1-2 children with autism and related disorders in a variety of summer camp indoor and outdoor settings.  Substitute positions float to various campsites as needed.  Travel reimbursement is provided for substitutes.
Responsibilities
  • Ability and desire to effectively interact with children with special needs as well as typical children
  • Requires active play with children, active walking to/from daily activities, and daily time supervising children from within a swimming pool
  • Provide direct one-to-one therapeutic interventions under the supervision of a master's level camp WISP site supervisor and psychologist
  • Cooperation and collaboration with regular camp staff and specialized camp counselors
  • Communicate regularly with camp WISP Site Supervisor, and psychologist regarding their assigned child's progress and issues during the duration of camp
  • Communicate with assigned children's families
  • Responsible for the supervision and safety of the child while working in camp community-based outings and field trips
  • Assist children in developing social skills and facilitate development of peer interactions over the course of camp
  • Attend regular supervision meetings and individual supervisory sessions
  • Assist in implementing behavior management plans, enabling the child to participate in camp activities, games, and community based outings
  • Implement crisis intervention techniques
  • Maintain therapeutic records and complete daily data progress notes that are specific to the camp treatment plan goals on assigned child(ren) in order to monitor progress
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field with at least one year's experience working with children with special needs OR an Associate's degree or sixty credits toward a bachelor's degree, with the equivalent of at least three years of full-time paid work experience in a job that involved direct contact with children or adolescents
  • Complete necessary training successfully
  • Ability to participate in physically demanding activities with the child throughout the course of the intervention (includes daily swimming in most summer programs)
  • Current PA clearances:  Acts 34, 114 and 151
