The incumbent serves as a Customer Service Representative providing support through the performance of a variety of clerical, customer service and retirement related tasks. These vacancies are located in Retirement Services & Management, Support Services, Files Services, Operations Support, of the Retirement Services. However, this announcement could be used to fill additional similar vacancies in other organizations within Retirement Services.

CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES IN RETIREMENT SERVICES AND MANAGEMENT, SUPPORT SERVICES, FILES SERVICES AND OPERATIONS SUPPORT ARE REQUIRED TO LIFT AND CARRY UP TO 50 lbs., STAND, STOOP, BEND, PUSH CARTS, WALK AND/OR SIT, AND CLIMB LADDERS (POSSIBLY AS HIGH AS 10 ft.) FOR 90% OF THE DAY.   The work is mainly performed in an area that contains 22,000 file cabinets in 110,000 square feet of space.

    KEY REQUIREMENTS

As a Customer Service Representative, you will:
  • Perform file, search, and expansion functions for various files, records, claims, forms, and miscellaneous material. 
  •  Ensure customers receive all information/records available to process benefits or inquiries by researching missing information.
  • Answer customer inquiries received by telephone and written correspondence.
  • Ensure customers receive interim payments while awaiting final processing of their retirement and/or survivor benefits.
  • Provide customers with forms and pamphlets available through the online documents system.
  • Verify financial records from agencies against registers of separation to ensure validity and completeness.
  • Use automated or other systems in the assigned work unit to assign casework, track cases, monitor workloads, enter and update workload information.
  • Sort incoming material and mail received in the office to make determinations on correct distribution.
