The Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare is currently
recruiting to fill 23 openings at their Juvenile Justice Facilities in
Perry, Montour, and Franklin Counties.
In order to be considered,
applicants must be at least 21 years of age at the time of
application, and must pass the Civil Service test for the Youth Development Aide
Trainee job title.

Starting Salary as of July 1, 2014:

Hourly rate of $14.23 is increased to $15.23 for employees who work 2nd or 3rd shift! If promoted to Youth Development
Aide (after 6 months as a trainee), starting salary jumps to $33,424. These positions also come with the potential of an
early retirement at age 55!
Nature of Work:
You will attend formal classroom training sessions and receive on-the-job training assignments to
develop the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for the care, custody and training of court adjudicated youth
requiring treatment and specialized program services in a Youth Development Center. Upon successful completion of
the six-month training period, you will be promoted to
the
Youth Development Aide with an increase in salary. Youth
Development Aides will actively engage court adjudicated youth on a day-to-day basis to address personal problems and
scheduled activities and to provide positive reinforcement and insight into responsible behavior and attitudes. Work
includes observing scheduled activities; assistin
the youths’ progress in attaining program goals;
activities including waking, personal hygiene, eating, recreating, work assignments, skill-building, and participating in
treatment groups and other programmed activities. Youth Development Aides Maintain order by intervening with
disruptive, emotionally disturbed and suicidal youth by being alert, responsive to emergencies and utilizing appropriate
restraint techniques to prevent escapes, control aggressiveness and maintain a safe and secure environment.
