Nature of Work: You will attend formal classroom training sessions and receive on-the-job training assignments to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for the care, custody and training of court adjudicated youth requiring treatment and specialized program services in a Youth Development Center. Upon successful completion of the six-month training period, you will be promoted to the Youth Development Aide with an increase in salary. Youth Development Aides will actively engage court adjudicated youth on a day-to-day basis to address personal problems and scheduled activities and to provide positive reinforcement and insight into responsible behavior and attitudes. Work includes observing scheduled activities; assisting professional staff in implementing the youths’ treatment plans; reporting the youths’ progress in attaining program goals; and providing physical care, custody, and supervision of the youths’ daily activities including waking, personal hygiene, eating, recreating, work assignments, skill-building, and participating in treatment groups and other programmed activities. Youth Development Aides Maintain order by intervening with disruptive, emotionally disturbed and suicidal youth by being alert, responsive to emergencies and utilizing appropriate restraint techniques to prevent escapes, control aggressiveness and maintain a safe and secure environment.
