Former Navy Admiral and Congressman Joe Sestak is
seeking applicants for a non-paid telecommuting internship position on his U.S.
Senate Campaign.
Qualifications
Applicants should be dedicated individuals who
are bright and have a passion to achieve. Interns with diverse majors are
welcomed and desired to apply, from engineering and political science to
mathematics to communications, and should draw upon a strong background of
analytical and qualitative skills in order to accomplish assignments. No prior
political experience is required, as interns will gain comprehensive knowledge
of the inner machinations of policy and politics and a deeper understanding of
the issues that face our country today. Microsoft Office fluency is a must, as
well as online research skills.
Responsibilities
Interns will be assigned to specific projects of well-defined
categories that include, but are not limited to:
Data management: Learn the latest of various advanced database
and data management software. Interns will be tasked with maintaining systems
related to donor, supporter, and communications management, as well as learning
the latest techniques and technologies employed by the most cutting-edge of
political campaigns and private corporations.
Policy research: Develop a broad research plan on a topic, then,
utilizing resources such as non-partisan policy institutes and academic
journals, examine, analyze and identify salient facts that are needed to
support a specific op-ed, policy paper, or speech. Researchers will have to
employ their own ingenuity and creativity to apply found facts in an innovative
way.
Expectations
Interns are given specific instructions on each
assignment, and appropriately guided throughout the process. Work is
continuously reviewed, as it is accomplished through a shared virtual server or
collaboration software. Regular phone meetings are scheduled to supplement constant
electronic exchange and communication, as well as virtual video meetings,
depending on the project. Interns are expected to turn in assignments on time,
but consideration of a students’ semester schedule is given when assigning due
dates.
