Quoted from Pittsburgh Business Times article:
Amid economic reports of a slowing manufacturing sector, Freeport-based Oberg Industries is bucking the trend and holding its first ever on-site job fair to try to fill 50 positions.
The precision manufacturer has 50 immediate openings for jobs including machinists, CNC operators, toolmakers and customer service representatives. Keeping with the growth plan, the company will need an additional 70 people in the next two years. Both figures are in addition to the company’s typical 7 percent annual attrition due to retirements or other turnover.
“We are in the process of getting new equipment and new qualified people to run the equipment and maintain the work flow,” Getty said.
The company, which has more than $100 million in sales, has secured at least six new, major contracts in the areas of automotive, aerospace and defense, energy, and packaging, said Dave Rugaber, executive vice president of sales and marketing.
Oberg is hoping to find the needed employees through this job fair, which will feature tours of the shop to show applicants the company’s culture and its work. Rugaber has heard talk of a manufacturing slow down but said it isn’t reflected at Oberg.
The company is looking for experienced applicants but also will consider people who have an aptitude for mechanical work. The company features apprenticeship and on-the-job training programs. The company wouldn’t offer a salary range for the positions because it is looking for such a wide variety of people, but Rugaber said Oberg offers competitive salary and benefit packages.
