Refugee Program Administrative Support, Jewish Family & Children’s Service, Pittsburgh, PA

Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JF&CS) a non-sectarian multi-faceted social service, assists newly arriving refugees to start new lives in Pittsburgh with funding provided by the U.S. government refugee program, in partnership with community organizations, volunteers, government offices, schools and others.
Position Summary
JF&CS has multiple government contracts to assist refugees and other legal immigrants.  JF&CS provides culturally and linguistically sensitive services to foster the early self-sufficiency of such immigrant clients. The Administrative Assistant provides a range of assistance to Resettlement program supervisors in compliance with government grants and internal requirements.
Qualifications
·         Two years administrative experience; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
·         Competency in data entry, Excel, Access, Microsoft and ability to learn other programs as needed.
·         Strict attention to detail and adherence to confidentiality per funding requirements.
·         Resourcefulness and self-motivation.
·         Ability to prioritize and work under deadline.
·         Excellent organizational and communication skills.
·         Willingness to communicate with multi-cultural, limited English speakers (with interpreter if necessary)
·         Capable of working on a team.
Duties and Responsibilities
·         Create and maintain client files.
·         Enter and maintain client information into internal and external databases.
·         Track client participation in programs.
·         Report client information to funders.
·         Communicate with appropriate internal/external resources when encounter problems.
·         Communicate with clients (with interpreter if necessary) to gather required information.
·         Take part in staff development and required trainings.
·         Be alert to cross-cultural interference in dealing with clients and behave in culturally sensitive manner in order to be able to respond appropriately to the cultural characteristics of the clients.
·         Assume other responsibilities as assigned.

Refugee Case Manager, Jewish Family & Children’s Service, Pittsburgh, PA

Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JF&CS) a non-sectarian multi-faceted social service, assists newly arriving refugees to start new lives in Pittsburgh with funding provided by the U.S. government refugee program, in partnership with community organizations, volunteers, government offices, schools and others.
Position Summary
JF&CS is responsible for the delivery of basic resettlement services to refugees who have fled persecution in their homelands and arrive into the U.S. under the United States government refugee program. JF&CS provides culturally and linguistically sensitive services to foster the early self-sufficiency of refugee clients. The Resettlement Case Manager, under supervision of the Program Director, oversees the activities that take place before arrival through the first month post-arrival.
Qualifications
·         Bachelor’s degree; MSW preferred and two years relevant experience in refugee or social services.
·         Must be able to work well with vulnerable, diverse, limited English-speaking populations (using interpreters as necessary) AND with diverse colleagues.
·         Organized, flexible team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
·         Experience in administration and program supervision.
·         Experience with crisis management.
·         Reliable vehicle and valid driver's license.
·         Willing and able to do airport pick-ups and other occasional evening and weekend hours.
Duties and Responsibilities
·         Oversees pre-arrival activities by coordinating staff, volunteers and interns: Management of arrival pipeline; communication with national and overseas refugee agencies; and, upon notification of arrival, secures rental, sets up household and arranges for airport pick-up.
·         Coordinates airport pick-up.
·         Ensures compliance with U.S. Refugee Program and proper documentation of such compliance in collaboration with relevant members of Refugee team. Program requirements are time sensitive and include home visits, intakes, access to government offices (welfare, social security), medical appointments, enrollment of parents into English; enrollment of children into public school; cultural orientation, enrollment into JF&CS employment program, etc.
·         Oversees apartment maintenance program.
·         Handles landlord relations.
·         Creates and maintains resettlement files.
·         Coordinates file reviews.
·         Reports to funders on resettlement program.
·         Participate in training and professional development activities including those which would result in increased responsiveness to the clients served and/or increased cultural awareness.
·         Other duties as required.

Refugee/Immigrant Employment Specialist, Jewish Family & Children’s Service, Pittsburgh, PA

Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JF&CS) a non-sectarian multi-faceted social service, assists newly arriving refugees to start new lives in Pittsburgh with funding provided by the U.S. government refugee program, in partnership with community organizations, volunteers, government offices, schools and others.
Position Summary
JF&CS has multiple government contracts to assist refugees and other legal immigrants find employment.  JF&CS provides culturally and linguistically sensitive services to foster the early self-sufficiency of such immigrant clients. The Refugee Employment Specialist (using interpretation) as required provides vocational assessments, counseling and job development activities for refuge/immigrant populations with a wide range of English, education and work experience. The Specialist coordinates and leads employment-related workshops relating to job readiness, the American world of work, upgrades and others.  He/she develops and assists with special employment projects as needed.
Qualifications
·         Bachelor’s degree in social service, education or related field; Master’s a plus.
·         Experience working with multi-cultural and/or vulnerable or diverse populations.
·         Ability to prioritize and work under deadline.
·         Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
·         Capable of working on a team.
·         Ability to cultivate new employers and sustain those relationships.
·         Reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license.

·         Complete job plan for refugee/immigrant clients.
·           Provide job counseling and job search for refugee/immigrant client.
·           Provide job development services for employable refugees.
·           Responsible for clients’ employment files.  Assure proper documentation.
·            Contact employers on behalf of refugee/immigrant clients.
·         Plan, write curriculum, organize, coordinate, and lead job-related workshops for refugees as  needed.
·         Follow up with employed refugee/immigrant clients, according to requirements of grants.
·         Act as liaison with employers, available to trouble-shoot problems.
·         Assist and/or stand in for Employment Case Manager, as needed –employment intakes, reporting, meeting attendance,  etc.
·         Professionally represent JF&CS Refugee Program in external community.
·         Take part in staff development and training opportunities.
·         Be alert to cross-cultural interference in dealing with clients and behave in culturally sensitive manner in order to be able to respond appropriately to the cultural characteristics of the clients.
·         Attend all necessary conferences.
·         Assume other responsibilities as assigned.
