A lab technician position is immediately available in Prof. Rosalyn Abbott's research group in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.
The position will involve isolation, characterization and cryopreservation of adult human adipose cells (including stem cells), development of biological assays and imaging modalities to assess metabolism, as well as design and testing of biomaterials.
Human adipose microenvironments will be developed and tested to study the complex transition of inflamed obese tissues to insulin resistant type II diabetic tissues.
Specifically, natural biomaterials will be used to support long term culture of adipose microenvironments in vitro.
The ultimate goal is to use these adipose tissue systems to inform preventative and therapeutic measures for patients affected by the metabolic syndrome.
Individuals with a strong background in cell culture, molecular assays such as PCR, immunohistochemistry, image analysis, and bio-material development are encouraged to apply.
