The Allegheny Conference on Community Development is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing private sector leadership to grow the economy and improve the quality of life in the ten-county Pittsburgh region. Together with its affiliates, the Pennsylvania Economy League of Greater Pittsburgh, LLC, the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce and the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, the Conference focuses on creating a more competitive business climate and marketing the Pittsburgh region for investment, job creation and talent attraction and retention.
OBJECTIVE
This position provides research, communications and direct project support to the Conference’s Workplace program focused on developing high demand technical training and career pathways for secondary and post-secondary schools in western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia and eastern Ohio. This position is a grant-funded, 12- to 18-month position.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Researches, identifies and quantifies high demand technical occupations across the region.
- Develops a detailed inventory of secondary and post secondary schools that have curricula related to those occupations, and identifies and maps certification and pathway gaps among training and education providers.
- Researches degree and certification programs that align to national and/or industry recognized certifications, and identifies best practices nationally in career and technical training.
- Working with Conference public policy staff, researches, identifies and makes recommendations on needed policy changes.
- Develops recommendations for convening educators, industry, funders and policymakers to align individual programs with industry need.
- Balances multiple priorities, working independently or participating as a part of a cross-functional team, keeping others informed through clear written and verbal communication, while maintaining a high level of productivity.
- Provides wide-ranging communications support including writing, editing and content management for key project-related publications, both hard copy and virtual. Prepares PowerPoint presentations, correspondence, talking points and other materials in support of the Workplace agenda. Manages logistics and prepares presentations as needed for external and internal meetings. Presents information to internal and external audiences as requested.
- Researches and analyzes data, policy briefs, legislation and other related materials as needed to prepare effective briefing materials, work plans and proposals, verifying all facts and analysis presented.
- Oversees and maintains selected databases, electronic files, online resources, and paper documentation as needed.
- Contributes to the efficiency of the organization by performing other duties and participating in special projects, as assigned.
