Local Government Academy Data & Programming Intern

Contemplating Governing & 2013 Election Results
Project Description

Assist the Academy in compiling, reviewing and interpreting results from the 2013 municipal
elections, both prior to and after the Primary Election. Additionally, the student will assist in
developing and marketing Local Government Academy’s “Contemplating Governing”
program series, which will occur in the first quarter of 2013.

Primary foci include:

Working with election departments in the 10-county southwestern PA region to gather
candidate information and details on each election (number of seats available, number
of winners, etc) to determine competitiveness of local elections
Maintain database of candidates and winners of the primary election for marketing and
informational purposes
Assisting in developing, coordinating and marketing LGA’s regional Contemplating
Governing program. This includes:
o Lining up instructors for the series
o Securing program locations and finalizing dates
o Reaching out to community groups and civic organizations to promote
Contemplating Governing & the Pledge to Excellence
o Seeking out speaking and vendor opportunities for LGA to promote
Contemplating Governing & the Pledge to Excellence

Applicants should have extensive experience with Microsoft Excel as a tool to manage and
interpret election results and should also have experience with public speaking and group
facilitation, to assist in the development of programs and to work within a competing values
