Digital Foundry Intern Job Description                           Spring & Summer 2021

Background – Digital Foundry:

The Digital Foundry is the technology and business/industry engagement entity for Nextovation™. Its purpose is to serve as a regional hub and national model for the growth of ideas, learning and problem solving to accelerate digital transformation for sustainable economic growth.  Our Digital Foundry will provide educational training, a digital-physical maker space and networking for local businesses / industry, entrepreneurs, students, and educators to explore digital technologies and tools, define and demonstrate business value, and enhance workforce development. Penn State University – New Kensington is seeking motivated interns who are ready to apply their knowledge of business, interest in innovation & entrepreneurship (I&E) and the 4th industrial revolution (industry 4.0) in a fast-paced, real-world environment

 

Internship Duties & Responsibilities:

Interns in this role will work with the Digital Foundry team to:

§  Developing a database to compile challenges, problems and solutions from business and industry for projects.

§  Identifying relevant technologies such as equipment, software and systems that advance the art of Industry 4.0.

§  Helping to define the Digital Foundry membership model and approaches attractive to local business and industry.

§  Determining relevant recognitions (e.g. credentials, certifications, and digital portfolios) that individuals earn when taking training classes, workshops, and seminars.

§  Other relevant areas of opportunity to help establish the Digital Foundry as they come up

The intern position is designed to complement the education of the PSNK student through learning about and working in ‘real life’ business environments. 

Schedule and Time Commitment:

The internship will run from January 11, 2021 to August 13, 2021. During the spring semester, interns will be asked to devote 4 to 6 hours a week (one week off for spring) to the project for the course of 16 weeks. During the summer, interns will be asked to devote 15 to 20 hours/week for 11 weeks (one week off for vacation). There will be a one-week break between the spring and summer internships. This will be a long-term internship program so arrangements for re-application for academic year 2021/22 will be made.


Requirements:

§  Seeking applicants from all majors, but must be actively enrolled at Penn State New Kensington

§  Willing and able to conduct research and meet with local business/industry (gather and disseminate information)

§  Willing and able to evaluate, review and provide recommendations (using logic and criteria-based approaches)

§  Experience with Microsoft and other tools necessary for administration of responsibilities

§  Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills

§  Good written and verbal communication skills

§  Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

§  Collaborative and leadership skills

Compensation:

This is paid internship at a rate of $12 to $15/hour
