I'm happy to announce that our team is growing. We are now seeking qualified applicants to serve as our New Student Orientation Coordinator (New Position, #40784). Application review will begin on October 25 and the position will remain open until filled.
Reporting to both Student Affairs and Undergraduate Education, the Office for Student Orientation and Transition Programs, along with programming partners, is responsible for providing a comprehensive learning experience for all Penn State undergraduate students that supports a successful academic, social and personal transition to the University. Responsibilities of the New Student Orientation Coordinator (reporting to the Associate Director for New Student Orientation) include the recruitment, selection, training, supervision and evaluation of (~32) undergraduate student staff to assist in the implementation of New Student Orientation (NSO) including; assisting with the development and delivery/instruction of a training course for credit, development of student staff learning outcomes, and managing the performance review process. This person will also develop and implement portions of the New Student Orientation program, including student sessions and late night programming.
The NSO Coordinator will also:
- provide oversight for social media and emerging technology platforms;
- prepare content for presentations, publications, and websites;
- assist with program assessment;
- rotate with other professional staff as person in charge of the program;
- serve as primary on-call staff member during the summer program; and
- assist with New Student Programs including Welcome Week, change-of-campus programming and other transition events.
Position typically requires a Master's degree or higher in a related discipline plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred in college student personnel, counseling psychology, higher education, or student affairs. Direct experience with orientation and transition programs; and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations is expected. The job requires effective presentation, writing and communication skills; and experience with emerging technologies and effectively leveraging social media.
