Description
This position provides
strategic recommendations and support to the Penn State New Kensington Advisory
Board. Reporting directly to the Chancellor, the individual will assist with
research and special projects as assigned by the Advisory Board. They will
assist in the coordination and planning of the periodic Advisory Board
meetings.
As the board’s intern, you will get an inside look at how business
professionals advise the Chancellor and be able to network with board members.
The Advisory Board is continuously trying to improve. To help accomplish this
you will research, assess and make recommendations on how the board can
increase its effectiveness. To help enhance our brand on campus, you will provide
feedback to develop an Advisory Board website or other communication tools. As
board intern you will integrate yourself into quarterly and ad hoc board
meetings to understand current developments and their status.
The intern should
be a self-starter, able to work with minimal guidance and able to bring fresh
ideas for improvement to the board. Candidate must be at least a 3rd
year student.
Relevant tasks include the following:
Board
Enhancement - complete a research project on how Chancellors from other
campuses are advised by their Advisory boards. Analyze other advisory boards
structure and procedures, compare them to our board and provide recommendations
for improvements. Guide the organization of an Advisory Board webpage and other
social media as appropriate and work with PSNK IT staff to implement.
Board
Meetings - fully understand and be able to report on board and subcommittee
initiatives and their status. Assist with scheduling general board and
subcommittee meetings, while communicating meeting times, dates, and agendas to
board members. Develop a board/guest/speaker schedule and manage logistics.
Relationship Building - enhance relationships between the board and campus by
working with student representatives, such as the President of the Student
Government Association. Develop and execute an initiative to assess and improve
the Advisory Board. Responsible for Advisory Board website and social media
content. Establish it as a viable and up to date method of communication and
information for the board, campus, and public.
